Lou Reed and Metallica to Collaborate on a new Record

Metallica have launched the front page of an official website of the upcoming collaboration with former Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed.

A statement from Metallica's website in June made the news public.

"We are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full-length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed. Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together."

It's impossible to tell what this new record could sound like, all the band has commented on is the fact that: "the music was so open...this could go anywhere." However, the band and Reed himself have expressed immense excitement and as yet a release date has not been confirmed. One writer, David Fricke commented that the new material is "a raging union of (Lou Reed's) '73 noir classic, 'Berlin', and Metallica's '86 crusher, 'Master Of Puppets'."

We here at Nihilist aren't the Metallica fans that we were when we were nippers, but this record is unprecedented so it could prove itself interesting, who knows...
