HIGH ON FIRE back in the studio for a new record in 2012!

B.A.N. favourites, High on Fire are back in the studio for the recording of an untitled new record (not that it won't have a name, just doesn't have one yet...). At the production helm is Converge guitarist and all-round heavy fucker Kurt Ballou, so you know this one is gonna be intense!

Bass player Jeff Matz had this to say, “The new songs are turning out absolutely punishing; there are some seriously sledgehammer riffs on this one!  Working with Kurt has been awesome as well.  He’s super easy to work with and is full of good ideas. The sounds that the guy gets are ridiculous and raw as fuck but also clear and HUGE. I think this album will capture the essence of the band really well. It’s still early in the process, but so far it’s sounding amazing.”

So far so good it looks like. This blogger was a little disappointed with the band's 2010 album 'Snakes for the Divine', produced by Greg Fidelman. Fidelman has some serious mainstream metal credibility with Metallica, Slayer and Slipknot under his belt but I can't help but feel that in an effort to clean up the sound he missed the point with HOF's style and ended up cutting out aspects of their signature sound. Ballou on the other hand has captured such murderously intense sounds as those made by Isis, Torche and his own Converge, so this is looking like a good choice to capture the sound of HOF. Here's hoping all goes well, and don't worry HOF, whatever happens I still love ya.
