New Track from the mighty Orange Goblin!
London's darkest burning star in the world of heavy stoner is back for the first time in 4 years with a whopper of a new track! Orange Goblin are due to release a fresh record, billed for Valentine's Day 2012, called "A Eurology for the Damned", and here's the first taste of this bad motor finger, and having been a solid Goblin fan for a few years now, I can confidently say, 'Red Tide Rising' is stand-out fuckin' stuff! I was turned onto the band's 2007 record "Healing Through Fire", a loose concept based record about the great fire of London in 1666, and it's been a staple of my listening ever since. As such, I've been raring for a new record to sneak out and hearing this track has got me excited! C'mon Valentine's Day!
Check out the new tune on Noisecreep right here, you won't regret it: http://www.noisecreep.com/2011/12/15/orange-goblin-red-tide-rising-song/
Cheers!

New Album and Music Video From Crust Legends Amebix
British Crust pioneers Amebix have a new album and have split with long time record company, Alternative Tentacle Records, in favour of publish their material themselves.
On the back of this they have released a surprisingly beautiful music video for new track, 'Knights of the Black Sun'. Check it out below.
Amebix were an important cult band in the British post-punk landscape of the early 80's. Instrumental in the tentative crossover of metal and punk while maintaining their Anarcho background. The new record is called 'Sonic Mass' and will be out September 23rd, the first new material from the band in some 24 years! Legendary Crust drummer, Roy Mayorga, of 'Nausea' and 'Stoner Sour' fame is on the kit and played the role of producer. It's difficult to call what this new work will be like but Nihilist is gonna check it out with high hopes!

Gibson Guitars Raid by Armed Federal Agents
The Gibson USA guitar company was raided by Armed Federal Agents for the second time. Warrants were served, the factory was evacuated and wood was seized. The wood is the source of the issue, according to the Justice Department. Indian wood imported for use in Gibson's guitar factory that is not 'finished' by Indian workers is being used illegally, which is NOT the case under US law.
The previous raid on Gibson has not resulted in any charges against the guitar builders, yet they have not been given the wood confiscated in that incident. This latest incident has put a serious dent in guitar production. According to the CEO of Gibson:
"What is more troubling is that...any guitar that we ship out of this facility is potentially obstruction of justice and can be followed with criminal charges..."

Truckfighters Movie
If you haven't heard Truckfighters, dammit you are missing out! So listen to this first before proceeding...
The cream of the crop in Swedish desert rock for the past few years and now is the time to listen in because pretty soon you're going to be able to indulge your inner ponce and say "yeah, I listened to them before everyone else did...", because some crafty person thought it would be a good idea to make a film about the band. This is going to occupy a unique place in film category, a Fuzzumentary, catch it November 16th!
For more on the movie, here's ever-dependable IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2007506/
Here's the trailer also, if you ever wondered what Josh Homme thinks of Truckfighters.

Lou Reed and Metallica to Collaborate on a new Record
Metallica have launched the front page of an official website of the upcoming collaboration with former Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed.

A statement from Metallica's website in June made the news public.
http://www.loureedmetallica.com/
A statement from Metallica's website in June made the news public.
"We are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full-length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed. Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together."
It's impossible to tell what this new record could sound like, all the band has commented on is the fact that: "the music was so open...this could go anywhere." However, the band and Reed himself have expressed immense excitement and as yet a release date has not been confirmed. One writer, David Fricke commented that the new material is "a raging union of (Lou Reed's) '73 noir classic, 'Berlin', and Metallica's '86 crusher, 'Master Of Puppets'."
We here at Nihilist aren't the Metallica fans that we were when we were nippers, but this record is unprecedented so it could prove itself interesting, who knows...

Black Sabbath Update
Yesterday, us Sabbath fans had all the joy of hearing of how the original line-up were back in the studio making a new record. This however has been (sort of) overturned by an official statement from Tony Iommi:
"I'm saddened that a Birmingham journalist whom I trusted has chosen this point in time to take a conversation we had back in June and make it sound like we spoke yesterday about a Black Sabbath reunion. At the time I was... merely speculating shooting the breeze on something all of us get asked constantly, 'Are you getting back together?' Thanks to the Internet it's now gone round the world as some sort of 'official' statement on my part; absolute nonsense. I hope he's enjoyed his moment of glory, he won't have another at my expense. To my old pals, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, sorry about this, I should have known better."
Now, if I may offer an opinion on the matter, being a student of PR and Marketing (yes, they are evil) I have learned a lot about the value of choosing very particular words for official statements and personally, I think Iommi may be doing 'damage control'. If you look at the words carefully you'll notice that he makes 3 points; 1, Makes a dig at the journalist; 2, Apologises to the band; 3, Says he made no 'official' statement. Nowhere in the remark is there a definite denial that a Sabbath reunion may be in the works. I think Iommi may have been pissed off that what would have been a big surprise announcement somewhere down the line has been given away too early. Whenever a reactionary official statement is produced within 24 hours you should always be suspicious!

Original Black Sabbath Line-up Finally Back and Making a New Album!!!
OH FUCK YEAH! C'MON THE LADS!
The top of my live band bucket-list over the past few years has been populated by Down, Baroness, Mastodon, Wino (any of the man's many bands), but always on top were the original Black Sabbath. Down has had the pleasure of my presence twice now, Mastodon I picked off in 2009, Wino I was awestruck by with Shrinebuilder during a snowy winter last year, Baroness have alluded me so far, now it looks like we will finally get the chance to see Sabbath again! Not only this, they have begun recording material for a new album next year!
Today it was announced that the band (that I have tattooed on my chest) are back in the studio as of June and working on a new full lenght album. Tony Iommi told the newspaper Birmingham Mail:
"We're really looking forward to it and I think the stuff
we've been writing is really good.
It's more back to the old original stuff."
The last time the band played as a unit was a once off for their induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
Previous to this, the band have not released any new recorded material since two new tracks were included on the 1998 live album Reunion.
It's difficult to judge what the line-up will be like after so long but this die-hard Sabbath head is staying optimistic.
DOOM and PEACE...and a lot of Sabbath!

Nick Oliveri Facing a Possible 15 Years in Prison!
According to http://www.metalinsider.net, Oliveri has been charged with:
"two counts of possession of a controlled substance with a firearm,
2 counts of possession of a controlled substance,
and one misdemeanor count of resisting (arrest)."
Given his alleged history of substance abuse and domestic violence, this is not looking good for the bassist who had to be replaced (for the second time) by Scott Reeder on the current Kyuss Lives! tour.

Cathedral to Play LAST Gig in December
The English doom mainstays, Cathedral are due to play their final gig in London this December. Most will probably know a little bit about Cathedral; former Napalm Death frontman Lee Dorian's ultra-doom outfit, formed in 1989. Their debut 'Forest of Equilibrium' is now a pure doom classic. A deathly collection of snail's pace metal that weights as much as a small planet! Here's one of the speedier track from that album.
As they progressed they explored more groovy rock styles with the obligatory Hammer Horror aesthetics as you can see here for yourself.
Cathedral will go out with a bang on December 3rd 2011 at the London Forum. This could be a blow out to catch!
DOOM and PEACE,
Edward

Cleveland , Ohio noiseniks Chimaira return to the fold with a new video from upcoming album 'The Age Of Hell', due out August 16th, for the song 'Year Of The Snake' .Take a look :
Directed by Todd Bell, it's a back to basics kinda vid from the thrash/groove metal outfit, with some awesome slow mo footage of the band scowling and breaking shit.NOICE.The song itself ain't too bad either, a softly crooned, catchy as fuck chorus built around the band's trademark stacatto riffing, dark electronic sounds , and eastern tinged melodies.

New Gallows Singer Announced
(Photo Courtesy Of Alternative Press/ Tom Barnes)
So it seems that fans of UK punk n' rollers Gallows, and Canadian post -hardcore stalwarts can rejoice somewhat, as after months of unrest from the former, and the split of the latter has resulted in Alexisonfire's Wade Mac Neill joining Gallows as their new singer .It'll be interesting to see what direction the new look Gallows take, but it's a welcome bit of news nonetheless.Read a full interview with Wade here:

New Releases Heaven by an excited metal fan . . . .
Well it looks like 2011 , and in particular the month of September, may just yet be a vintage year for metal releases folks , as titans such as Opeth, Mastodon, Eyehategod, and the legendary Primus return to the fold. Here's a quick look at what's in store from some of these monsters
Opeth- "Heritage"
Unveiled just today was a teaser from Swedish metal legends Opeth's new release, entitled 'The Devil's Orchard(see video)'.Produced once again by Porcupine Tree mainman Steven Wilson, it would seem that 'Heritage' may be the band's most radical departure from the band's death metal roots since the laid back, plaintive 'Damnation' way back in 2004.On the subject of the record , frontman Mikael Akerfeldt had this to say
“[I]t feels like I’ve been building up to write for and participate on an album like this since I was 19. . .."
It would appear that the band have fully embraced the more melodic, psychedelic side of their sound , as hinted at on their last effort, the brilliant 'Watershed', and with their past form, plus the startling new direction eviden by even one listen to 'The Devil's Orchard' it's probably safe to say this may just be the metal release of the year
ETA: September16th
Mastodon - "The Hunter"
After the blinding, career making collection of songs that was 'Crack The Skye', ,Atlanta mentalists Mastodon might have been forgiven for phoning it in a little with their newbie,or even just scraping together a 'Best Of' and fucking off to tinker around with various side bands(cough Tool cough), but no , it seems this particular ten legged riff monster has plenty of life in it yet .Check out their new song 'Black Tongue' , and tell me it's not the gnarliest thing you've heard in a long time .
Gutarist/Singer Brent Hinds stated recently, in typical understated Mastodon fashion , that 'The Hunter' would : "inspire drunkenness and public nudity" .
No fucking doubt buddy.
ETA: 27/09/11
Primus- " Green Naugahyde"
On the funkier side of things, it would appear that bizarro-rock icons Primus have returned from something of a temporary exile to deliver some new tunes, one of which is the jaunty 'Tragedy's a Coming', below:
Whether or not the band can recapture past glories is yet to be seen, or rather heard, but it's still great to have them back, if only for the opportunity to hear Claypool mindfuck a new generation of journalists with his bizarre patter, and if you don't exactly see where I'm coming from, then let the following video clear that one up for you.
ETA: September 13th
Eyehategod "Whiskey Drink"
It's been quite a while since southern sludge psychos Eyehategod graced us with new material, eleven years in fact, with the sublimely disgusting 'Confederacy Of Ruined Lives'. However, the band have apparently been holed up writing new material, among which is this nasty little gem :
Love them or hate them, EHG are one of the most influential of the Southern sludge metal set, and a live force to be reckoned with , and anticipation for this record amongst fans of hardbitten, ugly, dirty heavy metal should be starting to soar , in the same way that neighbours of said fans should probably start booking a nice weekend break somewhere. . . .
ETA :TBA
